Ezekwesili, Moghalu, Durotoye Seek ‘Political Disruption’ As Buhari And Atiku Shun Debate

The presidential candidates of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Alliance for New Democracy (ANN), and Young Progressives Party (YPP) have called for a paradigm change in the Nigerian political sector.

Obiageli Ezekwesili of ACPN, Fela Durtotoye of ANN, and Kingsley Moghalu of YPP, made this call at Saturday’s debate organised by the Nigerian Election Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON).
Though five candidates were selected by NEDG and BON, two were noticeably absent and these were the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The absence of President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP further strengthened the arguments of the other three candidates who blasted the flagbearers of the two major parties in the country, for shunning what many Nigerians consider the mother of all political debates.
No prior notice had been given to the organisers of the debate by the camp of the APC candidate, President Buhari regarding his absence at the debate.
On his part, Alhaji Abubakar arrived at the venue of the debate in Abuja, but just as the debate was about to start, he refused to join the other three candidates who had already been called to the rostrum by the moderator.
The Buhari campaign organization released a statement saying that the president was not at the debate because he had already attended a live town hall last Wednesday. On his part, Mr Abubakar, who was at the venue of the debate but refused to mount the podium, said there was no point participating in the debate if Mr Buhari will not be attending.
In their absence, Oby Ezekwesili; Fela Durotoye; Kingsley Moghalu, took to the stage to tell Nigerians of their plans for the country if elected president in the election in February.
The candidates, who are all political outsiders as this is the first time they are seeking elective positions, kicked-off the debate with gusto.
They told Nigerians why they were qualified to govern the country and what they were going to do differently if elected to lead Africa’s most populous nation.

Though the candidates agreed on the “need” for a political disruption, they had divergent plans for Nigerians as contained in their manifestoes.

Mother and baby

A Facebook user identified as Smart Believe, has taken to the social networking platform to post the photos of a young girl and her 'strange' newborn baby.

According to the social media user who shared the photos and didn't disclose where it happened, the girl gave birth to a 'monster' as a question was asked what could have caused such strange deformity.

While some think the birth has to do with something spiritual, others have argued online that this is a medical condition.

Smart posted the photos and wrote; "The baby is not a monster... it's a hereditary deficiency passed down by generational parents who both have the blood cell to trigger this birth...its an over growth of skin, like excess skin growth where a new skin generates always.
"It's difficult to handle such children cuz they are prone to infection if not properly taken care of..."

300 soldiers drop their weapons, retire from military.

300 soldiers drop their weapons,  retire from military.

Three hundred and twenty military personnel, comprising 262 from the Nigerian Army, 44 from the Nigerian Navy and 14 from the Nigerian Air Force have voluntarily who bowed out of the Armed Forces.

The personnel dropped their arms after  six-month skill acquisition and entrepreneurial training at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre(NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos.

Bidding them farewell, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)  Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, urged them to continue to contribute their quota towards surmounting threats to lives and property within their domiciled area.

“You will have to prove in your relationships that you have passed through a highly disciplined system such as the military.

“I believe you are all capable of succeeding and positively influencing whatever environment you find yourselves after now,” he said.

The CDS said he had no doubt that the training they have passed through at the Centre would expose them to several entrepreneurial and management skills that would help mitigate the envisaged pitfalls as well as living a stress free life in retirement.

“Let me use this opportunity to intimate you that the Defence Headquarters recently organised a workshop with the aim of harmonising all armed forces veterans associations.

“Thus a Veteran Association of Nigeria has been proposed and modalities for its establishment are ongoing.

“Also, a change in name and mandate of NAFRC is being considered to better reflect the current role of the Centre in capacity development of our retiring officers, soldiers, ratings and airmen,” he said.

The CDS also said that the Defence Headquarters was making efforts towards reviewing the mandate of the Centre, noting that the needs of the mordern day retirement go beyond mere vocational training.

Earlier, the NAFRC Commandant, Air Vice Marshall Austin Jekenu, during his welcome address, urged the retired personnel to make good use of the skills acquired.

He also urged the retired personnel to be obedient to constituted authority while contributing to the progress of their community.

Jekenu urged all the retiring servicemen to positively contribute to boost national economy in whatever business they engaged in.

“The Centre graduates 2 courses annually and it is on record that we have trained over 41, 000 ex-servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces since its inception.

“We have enjoyed tremendous support from the National Assembly, Ministry of Defence,  CDS and Service Chiefs,” he said.

HABITS THAT MIGHT RUIN WIZKID'S CAREER

"habits that might ruin wizkid's career "

By Obi prosper

Art is such a thing of beauty, meant to be valued and appreciated. People commonly find beauty in works of art and they appreciate them by passing compliments. Sometimes they go as far as paying a few (or a lot of) bucks just to have the right to keep the piece of art whose beauty has been registered in the heart.

Beyond these two forms of appreciation of art, giving out awards is another way to appreciate good works of art, especially if the awards are given based on merit, without bias or sentiment. That’s the idea behind awards like The Grammys & Golden Globe.

Music being a form of art is usually appreciated through compliments, paid for with scarce resources, and in fact huge and expensive events are held to celebrate excellence & brilliance in the art of music making. Artistes and their works are gathered, grouped, rated and the best in the different groupings are awarded for their respective standout materials.

I believe that’s the concept of the Headies Awards, SoundCity MVP Awards and the other prestigious awards that Wizkid has snubbed over the years. If it happened once it could have been a mistake. Twice – it could have been an unfortunate event but the consistency with which Wizkid treats Nigerian award ceremonies with contempt, suggests that it is a habitual thing.

Anyone following the music industry in Africa would agree Wiz is amongst the most frequently nominated artistes on the continent. The Starboy has been named on the nominee’s list of different awards, in different categories but he consistently snubs the events. It seems Wizkid has convinced himself to think that he is bigger than African music awards but even at international award ceremonies and events, Wizkid is usually absent.

Weezy’s failure to perform at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival epitomises his habit of absenteeism and unprofessional acts. His excuse was that he couldn’t secure visa for his band members but that has the sound of a late minute arrangement.

With enough time before the event, Wizkid had multiple options – one was to try multiple attempts to sort out visa issue, if that fails, set-up a makeshift band in US (where the event held) and prepare well enough to deliver a groundbreaking performance. If all that fails, inform the organisers of the event early enough of your challenges and inability to make it to the event, so the general public could be fed beforehand with the gist that there’s no Wizkid performance happening at Coachella.

Sadly none of these logical options was taken and it is even more sad that the manner with which Wizkid & his management communicated the botched Coachella performance reeks of disrespect especially to his fans who sing his chorus, praise him on Twitter and defend him with their best words during music debates – first he promised to makeup for his initial failure, the promise wasn’t kept and he just hushed like he didn’t just (figuratively) disappoint a whole continent.

Silence! Really? The millions of Wizkid fans across the globe who were looking forward to seeing their star singer wow the same audience as Beyoncé, while also showing to the world a side of Africa that is uniquely beautiful, deserve an explanation. If truly Wizkid cares about them like he claims on social media and during interviews he would have given reason for dashing their hopes not once but twice. But does he even care at all?

During a press briefing, Wizkid explained that he does not attend international awards (and perhaps events) that do not respect African artists; but then he treats Coachella and his fans with so much disrespect. How about the tens of native awards that he refused to attend or even acknowledge? Isn’t respect supposed to be reciprocal?

Around the tail end of last year, Wizkid was named “Young Person of the year” at The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) 2017. The prize was perhaps the biggest of the night, as it had the brightest young creatives on the African continent in the list of nominees.

“Why I killed OOU student and his girlfriend” – Cultist confesses.

29-year-old Muritala Babatunde, the killer of Oriade Adebisi aka Oh Dollar, 22, and his girlfriend, Julian Eke Imaga, 18, both students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State, has been arrested alongside one of his accomplices, Taiwo Rasak, 18.

While being paraded yesterday, Muritala, who was caught with the deceased’s iPhone X and two pairs of canvas shoes, said Oriade, who was a “Yahoo boy” and a member of his confraternity, was giving money to a rival cult group.

He also said they did a deal and got a huge sum of money but the deceased refused to give him his cut despite all his moves.

He said, Oriade was recently abducted by another person involved in the deal and the person forced him to pay him his own cut.

He further alleged that the deceased said there was nothing he could do to get his share of the money realized from the deal and that he didn’t also recognize him as the current Number one of the Black Axe Confraternity, Ijebu-North axis.

He said on 28/05/2018 at about 11pm, having noticed Oriade’s movement along Oru-Ijebu junction, he quickly called his gang members: Rasak Taiwo aka IKU (Death) and Sodiq, and Oriade and his girlfriend were kidnapped in his car.

They were taken to the bush along Ijebu-ode Awa/Ibadan expressway where both of them were killed.

He then took his iPhone and two pairs of shoes from him and thereafter abandoned the car at the expressway, having dumped their lifeless bodies in a bush at the back of uncompleted building where they were murdered.

On his part, Rasak, who was initiated into AIYE confraternity in year 2015 when he was just 15, confessed that Muritala called his girlfriend Seun Yetunde, who had been monitoring Oriade’s movement, to bring a bag that contained two guns and a cutlass.

That Muritala gave him one of the guns, handled one and handed over the cutlass to Sodiq while waiting patiently for Oriade to come. Few minutes oriade and his girlfriend arrived in a car.

He added that they took them to the bush along the expressway, where they were killed with planks and gun.

Nigeria Vs Iceland : 5 things we observed from the super eagles' 2-0 win

Nigeria’s World Cup campaign is back on track after they defeated Iceland 2-0 on Friday.

Ahmed Musa scored a stunning brace, as the Super Eagles claimed maximum points in Volgograd.

But what are the 5 things we learnt from the encounter?

1. Musa repays Rohr’s faith: The Leicester City winger was starting his first game at the tournament, following his cameo in last week’s 2-0 defeat to Croatia. And his impact was outstanding. Musa was full of running and purpose. His two goals were also well taken.

2. 3-5-2 the best bet: Rohr rang the changes for the match and reverted to a 3-5-2 instead of the 4-3-3 (or its variant) he deployed last week. Although the first half was a bit shaky, his players rose up to the challenge in the second 45minutes.

3. It’s killed or be killed against Argentina: Nigeria only need to avoid defeat against Argentina, to qualify for the knockout rounds of the tournament. Lionel Messi and co have only one point, while Iceland who will be taking on Croatia also have one point and a -2 goals difference.

4. Thumbs up, Uzoho: Credit must go to the Eagles’ goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, for his first clean sheet at the tournament. When Tyronne Ebuehi was punished for a foul inside the box, the 19-year-old did enough to put off Gylfi Sigurdsson, who blasted his spot-kick over the bar.

5. Victor Moses, fix up: The Chelsea wingback has been very average for Nigeria’s two games so far. Although he will righfully claim the assist for Musa’s first goal against Iceland, his all round play has been rather poor and nonchalant. Moses has to step it up quickly, as important games are ahead.
